Tecali de Herrera

Inside the church

Inside the church

Only 10 minutes by car from Cuauhtinchan, Tecali is the source of most marble and onyx in Puebla. It’s cheap here (a 12-inch onyx lamp costs about $160 pesos) and you can find just about any marble or onyx item you might want, including sinks and wall pieces (which are not so cheap). If you’re into the cultural and historical scene, you’ll definitely want to visit the ex-convent. As the town itself feels like an oven, you’ll be relieved to find that, inside the now roofless church, there are lush green grass and plenty of shadows cast by the stone arches overhead. The spot is perfect for throwing yourself down on the ground and admiring the architecture and the clouds.
