2 hours from Puebla. While technically not in the Sierra Norte, Cantona is in the northern half of the state so I’ve included it here. This is an extremely well-preserved archaelogical site about 30 minutes from the town of Tepeyahualco, where the land is more deserty and dry. You can explore a ball court, a pyramid, and elevated rock pathways which were the roads between people’s homes (of which now only the rock bases exist). The area is desert-like so bring sunscreen and water, and a jacket for the evening hours!
